That’s me!

Hi, I’m Kathy-Ann, owner & admin chief here at Alpha Gate Automation. Today I thought I’d take the controls away from Leo for a bit and give you a little tour of how our service works, and why, because we only offer a custom service, we differ from others.

First contact

When you first contact us, it’ll probably be me you’ll either speak to, or receive an email from. My job here is to help answer your questions, so we can find the right automatic gate or intercom system solution for you. So you know what to expect, here’s how we go about it…

New quotes

In order to provide a Job Request, when you contact us by phone or via the form on our website, I will require a few personal details along with a brief description of what you are interested to be quoted on, in order to arrange a site visit from our technicians (at no cost to you, of course!).

Why does a technician need to visit the site?

All of our gates are custom made. A technician needs to see the grounds of the site to know what they are working with to be able to specify what would be best suited for your needs. Approximate measurements are taken, as well as a discussion between you and the technician as to the type of design & colour you would like for your gate/s.

A site visit also helps the technician understand in more detail exactly what / how you would like the gate used to which they can provide you with additional options to maximise the security of your property. Our technicians are extremely knowledgeable so my advice would be “use them while you have them with you”!

Back at the office with all this information on hand a quotation is produced for you. This may take up to five (5) business days.

How the process starts

From the time that you have accepted the quotation, this will mean that we have received a signed and dated copy of the quotation together with the required deposit. As the gates are all custom made, it takes approx. four (4) weeks from fabrication to installation.
The technician will need to come back to the site and take final measurements prior to fabricating the gate/s, to which we will keep you informed along the way depending on what your custom job involves.

Gate Installation

Once the gate is fabricated we will notify you of the installation date. On completion of works (if you have purchased the automation with your gate/s) the technician will handover remote controls, manual release key/s and give you a rundown of “how to use” your purchase/s.

Maintenance & Service Calls

As with new gate quotes, I’ll require a few personal details along with a brief description of what you believe the issue with your gate/motor is, and if possible the brand of the motor as this is always helpful in giving the technicians a heads-up of what they will be working with prior to arriving. All services are given an appointment date and time (within an hour time frame) to when the technician will arrive.

Feedback

This is your chance to provide me with an insight of your experience with us. At the completion of all works (Services & Installations) we really would like to hear what you ‘have to say’, so please do take a few seconds to tell us what you really think!

And that’s it! Hope you found that useful, and I look forward to speaking with you soon!

Aluminium Gates vs Steel Gates. Which is Better?

a rusty steel gate in detail

Steel: Doesn’t play nice in coastal areas

With such an investment decision as you’re looking to make, you want to know it’s the right one. In this article we look at whether steel or aluminium is the better material for your automatic gate.

Rust: Enemy Number 1

While there’s no definitive right or wrong answer, the ideal choice does depend on whereabouts you live. Away from coastal areas, that choice is less critical in terms of your investment lasting a decent amount of time as the corrosive effects of the “sea air” are lessened, and steel will retain its looks a lot longer.

Where do you live?

Of course if you do live near the coast and wish to choose a steel gate, you can take preventative measures to slow down the oxidisation process and prolong the life of your gate. Use of products like a cold galvanising paint on welded joints, rivets and other exposed areas of untreated steel.

Unfortunately, even this method can be a little hit and miss, as even the smallest hole will be enough for the gate to start rusting. So it’s for this reason that we highly recommend that if you’re in areas near the ocean (e.g. the Gold Coast), you choose a gate made in aluminium.

Why is aluminium the better choice for coastal areas?

Put simply, due to its inbuilt properties, the thin coating of aluminium oxide on its surface actually makes it impossible for oxidisation to begin, making it resistant to corrosion and rust.

Now, bad school chemistry lessons aside, the takeaway is an aluminium gate will last longer and retain its looks – ensuring you have a great looking entrance way to your property for years to come…

The Kardashian, The Lamborghini & The Automatic Gate

A $750,000 car and an automatic gate. What could possibly go wrong?Photo Credit: Clint Brewer / Splash News

This little snippet of celebrity news involving a very expensive car belonging to rapper Kanye West, and an automatic gate at girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s house came across our desk last week.

Automatic Gate Experts

Unfortunately, there were no automatic gate experts on hand (Leo was working elsewhere that day!) to let us know exactly what happened, so we’ll just have to assume that it was either a case of poor driving, or of a faulty sensor causing the gate to not open, or close, fully.

Safety Sensors

While we can’t do anything about the poor driving, happily we can do something about the sensors.

In fact, we even have it in our terms and conditions (#14, if you’re looking) that Alpha Gate Automation highly recommends you have photoelectric safety sensors fitted as part of your installation to prevent the premature closing of the gate.

Professional

We like to think of it as just one of those little things we do that makes the difference between a professionally installed gate, and a DIY kit fitted at the weekend.

Happy Endings

And if the thought of an injured Lamborghini is painful to you, the story was that the damage was superficial and able to be buffed out in a couple of hours.

(Oh, we’d also like to offer our apologies to any C.S. Lewis fans for the title of this post…)
